UMD CAS End of Support for Windows 7 and Older Versions of macOS
Beginning Monday, January 11, 2021, UMD community members will no longer be able to access systems that use the university's Central Authentication Service (CAS) from computers running Windows 7 or Macintosh operating systems older than 10.13 (High Sierra). Major university systems that use CAS include UMD Google email, PHR, ELMS, Testudo, Terrapin Express, Box, MyDRL, MyUHC, and library services.
Apartment Community Wi-Fi Upgrades in 2021
The Division of IT is upgrading Wi-Fi equipment in South Campus Commons, Graduate Hills, and Graduate Gardens apartments begininning in January 2021. We recognize that high-quality W-iFi is essential for remote learning during COVID-19, and we have worked over Winter Break to acquire equipment and make plans for these improvements. When complete, residents will experience the following enhancements:

Over the past year, we have put many new IT protocols and safeguards in place to protect UMD accounts and data, as many of us continue to work remotely. We must continue to improve these systems to ensure the safety of our data over the long term.
Zoom Auto Live Transcription
UMD Zoom offers the ability to provide live Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) transcripts in real time for meetings and webinars. Once enabled, the feature provides the ability to show in-session ASR transcriptions of all spoken content, based on the session audio. The transcriptions appear during the meeting in a side panel visible to all participants.

New UMD Adobe Creative Cloud Process Streamlines Access
As of March 2018, UMD and Adobe are making it easier for students, staff, and faculty to get the most from Adobe’s Creative Cloud software with two big changes to the way you log in and renew/install products. First, we’ve implemented a sign on process that’s integrated with our Central Authentication System (CAS). When signing into Adobe Creative Cloud, you should now choose the “Enterprise ID login.” You will then be directed to log in with your UMD Directory ID and password.
Preview New Gmail Features Coming to All UMD Google and TERPmail Accounts
Some new Gmail features will be coming to all UMD Google and TERPmail accounts in August 2018! You can preview the new features in this overview video and by reading on! New Gmail Features Available The 2018 Gmail update includes more security features and integrates your Google Calendar, Google Keep, and Tasks with your Gmail to help you manage and navigate your busy inbox. To begin using the new Gmail, click the gear icon and then click “Try the new University of Maryland, College Park Mail.”
Student Technology Fee Proposal Period
UMD community members, especially students, are invited to submit proposals for using Student Technology Fee funds online before 5 p.m. on Friday, April 30, 2021. Each year, a portion of Student Technology Fee funds is allocated to award projects proposed by UMD community members. Successful proposals should aim at providing strategic enhancements to campus-wide IT services. Please review the proposal guidelines for more information.
Terrapin Tech Expo
DIT will host a virtual Terrapin Tech Expo on April 14, 2021 to show off some of what we can do for university community members! The expo showcases resources from the Division of IT as well as some of the commonly used vendors such as Dell, Apple, LinkedIn Learning, and more.
