IT Security Awareness Training 2022

The university needs a cybersecurity conscious workforce to ensure that our computers, networks, and information are kept safe. Updated for 2022, “Defending Your Shell” is a basic cybersecurity awareness training created to fulfill the state of Maryland’s expectation that all employees receive cybersecurity awareness information each year.

All faculty and staff, including research assistants and graduate assistants, are required to complete “Defending Your Shell” training before March 18, 2022.

Get started at go.umd.edu/SecureTheShell. You must log in with your UMD credentials and enroll in the course to begin. The material is broken up into four modules with corresponding quizzes that can be completed at your convenience. It takes approximately 40 minutes to view the full series.

Unlike last year, there are no exemptions for those who have taken equivalent courses from outside entities, including the state and federal government. This change is based on guidance from state of Maryland auditors.
