Data Privacy Program

Privacy considerations arise any time UMD works with data on identifiable individuals. This includes academic, research, and administrative activities. The purpose of the Data Privacy Program is to ensure that the rights of data subjects are respected while also allowing UMD to make the best use of data to inform its decisions. We commit to compliance with local and regulatory requirements and University policies, standards, and guidelines.

Guidelines

Below is a listing of the available IT guidelines at UMD. They are broken down into three categories: security, research, and specific system or application guidance. These guidelines are constantly evolving and were created for the most common questions surrounding security for these areas. They serve as instructional guidance for all types of users, from staff to systems administrators and executive leadership, as to how to securely interact, configure, and connect. IT resources are provided to support the academic, research, instructional, and administrative objectives of the university. This policy sets forth standards for responsible and acceptable use of university information technology (IT) resources. These resources include computer systems, computer labs, applications, networks, software, and files.
