  • New University Data Privacy Policy

    The university has a new Data Privacy Policy (Policy X-15.00(A)), which was approved by the University Senate and signed by President Pines at the end of December. The policy sets out the principles by which UMD interacts with individuals' data and the expectations that individuals can have in how the university uses their data.

  • IT Security Awareness Training 2022

    All UMD faculty and staff, including research assistants and graduate assistants, are required to complete IT security awareness training before March 18, 2022.

  • Privacy Policy Virtual Information and Listening Sessions

    The University of Maryland is developing a new data privacy policy to establish clear principles and expectations related to the appropriate use of university community members’ data. The IT Council of the University Senate is interested in student, faculty, and staff feedback before finalizing the policy. You’re invited to attend a virtual information and listening session to provide your input and have your questions answered.   • New UMD VPN Service Now Available

    UMD’s current Cisco AnyConnect virtual private networking (VPN) service will be retired on October 15, 2021. Its replacement is GlobalProtect VPN, which is now available to UMD community members. If you use UMD's VPN service, we encourage you to switch as soon as possible!

  • Spring 2021 IT Security Reminders

    Over the past year, we have put many new IT protocols and safeguards in place to protect UMD accounts and data, as many of us continue to work remotely. We must continue to improve these systems to ensure the safety of our data over the long term.

  • Security Enhancement for Zoom Recordings

    Beginning on January 5, 2021, all new UMD Zoom recordings will be hosted on UMD Panopto servers instead of Zoom servers. UMD Panopto is the institutional platform for lecture capture and media management. This new process enhances security levels of these recordings and consolidates the storage of instructional media.
