UMD CAS End of Support for Windows 7 and Older Versions of macOS

Beginning Monday, January 11, 2021, UMD community members will no longer be able to access systems that use the university's Central Authentication Service (CAS) from computers running Windows 7 or Macintosh operating systems older than 10.13 (High Sierra). Major university systems that use CAS include UMD Google email, PHR, ELMS, Testudo, Terrapin Express, Box, MyDRL, MyUHC, and library services.

Why are we making this change?

Microsoft has stopped supporting and providing security updates for Windows 7. Apple has stopped supporting and providing security updates for versions of macOS that are older than High Sierra. This significantly increases the risk of your computer becoming infected with malicious software. Accessing UMD systems via obsolete operating systems in turn increases the risk to data stored on the university systems and is a violation of our Security of Information Technology Resources Standard (IT-5).

What you need to do

You will need to upgrade your computer to a supported version of Windows or macOS.

If you are a faculty or staff member and need assistance with upgrading the operating system on your computer, please contact your local departmental IT staff or the IT Service Desk. You may also schedule an appointment for in-person support at Terrapin Tech in the Edward St. John Learning and Teaching Center.
