New System for UMD Account Management

On August 10, 2026, UMD will launch a new account management platform (Fischer Identity) for self-service account management functions such as activating new accounts, changing passphrases, and updating multi-factor authentication settings (MFA, commonly referred to as DUO).

To allow for the transition, between Thursday, August 6 at 1 p.m. and Monday, August 10 at noon, updates to UMD account information will be delayed. Creation or deletion of University Directory accounts via actions in Workday or SIS made during the transition will be queued and take effect by noon on Monday, August 10, 2026. During the transition window, UMD community members will not be able to create new DUO MFA bypass codes or register new hardware tokens.

The URL for passphrase changes will remain password.umd.edu. During the transition, you will still be able to change passphrases there. Starting on Monday, August 10, the user interface for passphrase changes and DUO MFA account management will look different.

New URL for Account Management Services

For account services other than passphrase changes, starting Monday, August 10, 2026, the new URL will be account.umd.edu
