Scheduled Network Outages for UMD Buildings Spring 2022

The Division of IT is launching a project to upgrade all UMD building network connections to new equipment. Related to this work, beginning now and continuing through the Spring 2022 semester, there will be a scheduled outage for each campus building when it will lose network connectivity for 15-20 minutes. During the outages, wired internet and Wi-Fi, wired phones, and emergency/PERT phones will be unavailable. Weekday outages will generally be scheduled between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. A list of scheduled outages will be posted weekly on the IT Service Desk website. If you’d like to get IT service alert emails, including the weekly list of scheduled outages, you can subscribe to the mailing list.

Residence halls, dining halls, the Stamp Student Union, and the University Health Center are scheduled to be migrated during Spring Break when most students are away from campus. We are collaborating with departmental IT contacts to schedule outages during off-peak hours for minimal disruption and to keep community members informed. If you plan to be in a building during its outage, please consider carrying a cellphone in case of emergency.

This work is a precursor to a larger upcoming general network refresh. If you’d like to learn more about the project, please visit the Network Aggregation Refresh Project website. If you have any questions, please contact the IT Service Desk.

We regret any inconvenience caused by this work and appreciate your understanding.
