Zoom Quarterly Minimum Version Requirement Begins in November

Zoom will begin enforcing a quarterly minimum version requirement on November 5, 2022. Starting then, you will be required to use Zoom client version 5.8.6 or higher in order to participate in a Zoom meeting/webinar. If you are not using the required minimum version or higher, you will be logged out of Zoom and prompted to update the Zoom meeting client to the current minimum version before you can sign in or join a meeting/webinar. If you are unable to immediately update, you will be provided the option to join a meeting through the web client instead. UMD Zoom users who have recently used a version that does not meet minimum requirements were sent an email notification on October 21.

Zoom provides instructions to find out what version of Zoom you are using in your desktop client or mobile app

Whenever a client version update is available, a blue notification bar will appear. Updating Zoom takes only a few minutes.

Zoom will require a new minimum version every 3 months (the first weekend of February, May, August, and November).

Keeping your devices and apps updated ensures that you are able to use the latest features and that security enhancements are installed regularly. This version requirement ensures that Zoom is kept minimally up-to-date.
