UMD Voicemail Behavior Changes November 4, 2022

On Friday, November 4, 2022 at 10 p.m., the Division of Information Technology will be enhancing the UMD voicemail system. The enhancements will provide more consistent behavior, no matter whether you access messages via email, your office phone, or a softphone on your computer.

What's Changing

  • If you listen to a voicemail message from an email notification, the voicemail system will mark that message as saved instead of keeping it as new.
Please note: If you delete the email notification, the voicemail message will be marked as deleted in the voicemail system.
  • Voicemail messages delivered to your UMD Google Workspace Gmail account will begin to be tagged automatically with a new "VoiceMessages" label. The email sender for voicemail messages will be specific to the individual message instead of the generic "Cisco Unity Connection" name.
  • If you use a softphone (for example, if you can make and receive calls via Webex on your computer or other device), the system will recognize when you've listened to a message, and you will be able to manage your messages from your softphone app.

The amount of time that messages are automatically stored in your account will not change.

For additional details, please see the Voicemail Management and Notifications support article.

Also, please note that these changes apply to individual voicemail accounts, not to UMD call center voicemail.

If you have any questions, please contact the IT Service Desk.
