Fall 2023 Fast Facts

first takeaway

Distinct academic technology trends are emerging.

ELMS-Canvas, Zoom and Panopto remain central hubs for students and instructors. For instance, 82% of students log into ELMS-Canvas on a typical day during the semester. Mobile polling is showing substantial growth as an example of systems and services that allow students to integrate their own devices into learning.

second takeaway

New resources are addressing community needs.

For example, we have an average response time to urgent classroom technology issues of 3 minutes and 32 seconds, supported by software that allows us to address issues proactively. A new accessibility tool, Ally, was launched in July 2023 in ELMS-Canvas courses and has already supported over 30,000 alternative format downloads.

third takeaway

DIT continues to build new connections with the UMD community.

The UMD app was opened over 3 million times and was reimagined to include new student modules and event information. DIT partnered with the campus community and attended an unprecedented 36 outreach events, from large ones such as the First Look Fair to smaller, more targeted events for advisors and other audiences.
