Making Your PDFs Accessible: The Basics

3 - 4:15pm

Location: Virtual

PDFs are one of the most frequently used types of documents in higher education, and one of the most complicated to make accessible. Learn how to use the automated tools Adobe provides to evaluate and modify your documents to be more accessible, often with just a few clicks!

After attending the PDF Basics session, participants will be able to:

  • Run Adobe’s Accessibility Checker.
  • Interpret accessibility reports from Adobe.
  • Fix commonly found issues through Adobe tools such as ‘Action Wizard’ and ‘Scan & OCR’.
  • Navigate Adobe’s provided explanations for more complex issues.
  • Create alternate text and other accessibility necessities directly in document, rather than through ELMS-Canvas.

Participants who attend are encouraged to also register for Beyond the Basics, a deeper dive into the intricacies of PDF accessibility, as well as Bring Your Own PDF: A Remediation Workshop, where attendees can bring PDFs and work step-by-step with UMD’s Web Accessibility Specialist to find accessibility solutions.

Participants will be provided with both slides and a recording of the session after the webinar is completed. Live automatic captions will be provided for this event. If you need additional accommodations, please contact us at itaccessbility@umd.edu.
