June 2021 Service Modifications

Division of IT offices will be closed Friday, June 18, 2021 in observance of Juneteenth. We will reopen on Monday, June 21, 2021. Additionally, there will be intermittent service outages of many UMD IT services on Sunday, June 13 between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Additional service modifications for June are listed below.

Planned Outage of IT Services June 13, 2021

The Division of IT will be performing system maintenance on Sunday, June 13, 2021. Between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., the services listed below will be intermittently unavailable:

Spring 2021 Dell Bulk Buy

The Spring 2021 Dell bulk buy period for UMD institutional purchases is available through July 30, 2021. The bulk buy discount is 5 to 7% off on select configurations.  Shopping through UMD’s e-procurement system, Shell Shop, is the recommended method for purchasing devices from this promotion. Alternatively, Dell has created a special Premier website for this bulk purchase timeframe like they have for previous bulk buy promotions; however, the Premier website now requires registration. 

ATEX presents at the Women Advance IT conference

In November 2019, members of the ATEX lab and DIT's Senior IT Accessibility and UX Specialist, Ana Palla-Kane, presented at the Women Advance IT conference at the University of Lincoln-Nebraska. The conference highlights the contributions of women in the field of IT.

Impact of DIT survey work published in the Chronicle of Higher Education

In this article in the Chronicle of Higher Education, check out how DIT survey design and implementation strategies, led by Dr. Megan Masters, improved the implementations of classroom technology, by asking for input from the users themselves. To salvage the semester, college professors make a rapid pivot to teaching online

In March 2020, when the university transitioned to remote instruction, Marcio A. Oliveira, Assistant Vice President for Academic Technology and Innovation, stressed the importance of faculty being flexible, patient and creative in designing and implementing their courses.

Initiatives

These projects focus on the interface between students’ and instructors’ experiences with academic technology and how these experiences impact learning processes in both face-to-face and digital contexts. We come to work each day committed to uncovering new evidence, patterns, or insights into the learning and teaching experience at the University of Maryland, knowing that statistical trends that we uncover likely yield important implications for the students and faculty whom we serve.
