A new Controlled Unclassified Information Environment (CUIE) is now available for University of Maryland research. It was developed to enable researchers to store and analyze Controlled Unclassified Information. Hosted in one of the Division of IT's data centers, it furnishes a ‘vault’ for uploading and storing files, provides virtual machines for performing analysis, and uses public-private key cryptography and end-to-end encryption to secure files and connections.
A System Security Plan (SSP) including documented processes and system architecture is available to ensure system compliance with NIST SP 800-171 guidelines. To learn about pricing and request the service, please visit the CUI Environment entry in the IT Service Catalog.
The CUI Environment is part of the division’s strategic initiative to enhance research technology systems and services and supports the anticipated growing need for highly secure UMD computing resources.
