The University of Maryland will be replacing faculty and staff office telephones beginning in August and continuing throughout the upcoming year. As part of this upgrade, you will also switch to a new voicemail system. Telephone numbers will not change.

The move to the new Cisco communications system will happen on a building-by-building basis. Each telephone currently in use will be replaced with the equivalent new Cisco model. The Division of Information Technology will work with departmental representatives to finalize logistics and communicate scheduling details for your building. There will also be many training opportunities available to help university community members learn about the new features available and how to use them.

The new system will provide access to enterprise-class calling features, such as integrated company and personal directories. It is designed to be stable and secure, and it will reduce support costs. The current telephone system was last upgraded in 2008. It is nearing the end of its useful life and will no longer be supported by the vendor after 2018.
